Palm Avenue School- DALWOOD
Palm Avenue School operates in conjunction with the Dalwood Assessment Centre, a NSW Health facility. This join operation provides specialist assessment and remedial support for students from goverment and non goverment schools located in rural and remote areas. Students assessing this service range from 5 to 12 years old and have significant learning difficulties.
Referral to Palm Avenue Services
In rural areas, where additional support in literacy or Language beyond the available resources of the region is required, regions may refer primary age students with significant learning difficulties through the Regional Placement Panel for assessment by staff from the Dalwood Assessment Centre and Palm Avenue School.
All referrals for students in government schools are to be made through the local regional office (Assistant Principal Learning Assistance) using the standard access and referral form plus attachment 9-Dalwood referral form.
Acceptance of a student's referral is contingent upon the school's willingness to support followup programs. Critera!
Prior to a referral for support from the Dalwood Assessment Centre and Palm Avenue School, a student should have recieved:
-An individual learning support program within the student's own class over 2 terms, developed by the class teacher and the school Learning Support Team.
-Intensive intervention provided by the STLA (if available) over 2 terms.
-Reading Recovery (If applicable) for up to 2 terms followed by intensive intervention from STLA over 2 terms.
-The student will also have been referred to the services of the District Designated STLA
